Update: Verizon is P2P friendly

In an update to our article about constructive peer-to-peer management, Slashdot reports that Verizon has successfully trialled the Pando system and that they are now P2P friendly. The claims suggest that during the tests, the amount of P2P traffic restricted to their own network grew from just 2% to 50% - significantly reducing the strain on expensive peering points and long-haul network links.

Given the huge popularity of the BBC iPlayer and 4oD, it is likely that the positive impact of intelligently managing P2P traffic will be bigger for UK ISP's than their US counterparts.
