In recent months CBN has been working on development projects in Africa. This led us to analyze our methods and processes and to apply them to creating a technology solution to assist development work and education in Kibera, a slum district on the outskirts of Nairobi, Kenya. CBN's work in Africa led it to develop the concept of "FairTrade Broadband" - a co-operative model for delivering faster internet access, where the social and economic benefit can be retained at the point of devliery rather than exported to Europe or America. CBN, today, works very closely with Close the Gap and Ons Net in The Netherlands. This shot paper reflects on the initial visit to Nuenen, Close the Gap's initial and pioneering project, back in the summer of 2005. Initial visit to Ons Net in Neunen
The importance of this project could not have been more obvious, and a close relationship soon developed based on a set of mutual cooperative and community ideals. CBN is now Close the Gap's partner for UK and International projects. |
