CBN welcomes plans in the Digital Britain report to create a fund to develop next generation broadband in areas that would otherwise miss out – providing public, private and community organisations have an opportunity to participate. CBN CEO Malcolm Corbett said: “Our experience shows that engaging local people will drive take up, open up new opportunities for further investment and reduce costs of deployment. In short we get a much bigger bang for the buck than the vanilla-flavoured approach adopted by the old-style telcos.”

CBN also welcomes the Government’s commitment to support he creation of the Independent Networks Co-operative Association. INCA will provide a platform for local next generation projects to speak with one voice and co-ordinate technical and business processes. INCA will be launched on 23rd June at the CBN Next Gen Roadshow in Manchester.

The Manchester NextGen Euro Conference and final Roadshow 2009 on 22 and 23 June are sold out but the events will be webcast and a link will be availbable on the CBN website shortly. We are planning a major conference later this year and a further series of roadshows in 2010.
