Hi [FIRSTNAME]

Delivering Digital Britain

Earlier this month the government published its interim Digital Britain Report. The first objective focuses on 'Upgrading and modernising our digital networks – wired, wireless and broadcast – so that Britain has an infrastructure that enables it to remain globally competitive in the digital world'. The report goes on to list a series of actions including 'The Government will help implement the Community Broadband Network’s proposals for an umbrella body to bring together all the local and community networks and provide them with technical and advisory support.'

CBN and Alcatel-Lucent have joined forces to run a series of Next Generation Broadband events to discuss the economic and business issues, technologies, what local communities are doing about next generation broadband and how a national framework for local action is being created.

NextGen Roadshow comes to Gateshead

Registrations for the Roadshows are now open and we have had a tremendous response. The first Roadshow will kick off in Gateshead on 18 March. Alcatel Lucent, our key sponsors have worked closely with Gateshead Council on bringing NGA to the Baltic Business Quarter. Liz Reid from Gateshead Council will present this exciting case study and Derek Quinn will discuss the wider economic benefits of next generation broadband.

Tour dates include:

18 March - Gateshead, The Civic Centre
24 March - Nottingham, The Albert Hall Conference Centre - Connected Nottingham will set out plans for next generation broadband in this key area of the East Midlands
31 March - Bristol, The Watershed Media Centre - Connecting Bristol and Bristol City Council will explain the vision for Bristol alongside representatives from Somerset and Devon, plus the local digital industries
22 April - Birmingham - The Maple House Conference Centre - Stakeholders and partners will discuss ambitious plans for the West Midlands.
Further events are planned in Hampshire -13 May and in Manchester.

Each roadshow has been designed to take the debate further and we are always interested to hear from you. Let us know what the latest plans are in your area.

We had planned an early event in Manchester on 24 February, but unfortunately several key contributors could not commit to that date. As a result we decided to reschedule the Manchester event later in the year when it will function as a major wrap-up event for the series with expected announcements about ambitious plans for next generation broadband.
